Not everything will be taught to you during driving school. There are some things that you will only learn once you start driving on the road. Here at AutoTech India, we have more than enough experience with cars that we have learned some unwritten rules when it comes to driving.
Various drivers have different sets of rules that are not taught in any driving schools. They may have learned these along as they were driving or they may have learned them from other drivers. Some rules are ridiculous while some are actually helpful. So, without further ado, here are some unwritten rules of driving:
Pay attention to the stoplight
When you’re stopped at a traffic light, what’s your immediate reaction? Some people just sit there and observe the happenings around them while some take out their phones and start scrolling on their social media. As tempting as it may be, you may want to avoid this altogether so that you can pay attention to the spotlight.
One glance at your phone while you’re on a halt can be distracting. You might get lost in your feed and hold up traffic. You wouldn’t want to be at the receiving end of it, do you? So as much as possible pay attention to the stoplight so that the person behind you won’t be held up. Don’t wait until you get blasted with horns from other cars behind you.
Move your car away from the pump
This unwritten rule takes place at any gas station. Whenever you’re pumping gas at your local station, make sure to move your car into the parking spot if you decide to go inside the store.
Don’t leave your car beside the pump when you go inside to allow other drivers to refill their cars. Nothing is more infuriating than being held up by an unattended car at the gas station.
Leave a note if you damaged a vehicle
As much as you want to avoid it, some accidents are inevitable. The least you can do is to try your best to drive safely and avoid them. However, if in case you do get into an accident and you damage someone’s parked car, it would be best to leave a note on the windshield.
On this note, leave all of the same details that you would give if the driver is there. This includes:
- Full name
- Full address
- Contact numbers
- Insurance company
- Policy number
- Driver’s licence number
- License plate number.
Don’t throw out trash from your window
This rule not only applies on the road but everywhere as well. Some drivers think that it’s convenient to throw trash such as small candy wrappers on the streets because someone will clean it up. Instead of having this mindset, refrain from throwing anything out your window and keep all your trash to yourself and throw them at the nearest bin.
Not only will you be helping the street sweepers but the environment too! These small acts of kindness will go a long way if all the drivers decide to do it.
